What We Believe

What We Believe

Abounding Joy Lutheran Church believes and confesses that the Bible is the written Word of God. It is the only rule of faith, doctrine and life.

The Apostles', Nicene, and Athanasian Creeds are true declarations of our faith. We accept the Lutheran Confessions, in the Book of Concord, as accurate interpretations of the Bible. Nothing contrary to these confessions will be taught at Abounding Joy Lutheran Church.

As Christians, we affirm the following:

Faith alone in Jesus is the only way of salvation and it is the heart of the Gospel.

Through Baptism, the Holy Spirit makes Christians servants to others for Jesus' sake.

The pastor's role is to preach and administer the sacraments.

The Christian Church is the gathering of believers brought together to worship; this takes place in the local church. Higher organizational elements exist to serve the local churches.

The purpose of worship is to proclaim the saving work of Christ and to glorify God.

The national organization must govern in a representative and accountable manner. National assemblies must respect the integrity and authority of local congregations.

Christian unity is a result of a common belief in Jesus Christ. We can worship, work, and conduct service with other Christian organizations as long as it does not compromise our core convictions.

The Bible establishes the boundaries of proper sexual behavior. It clearly teaches that marriage is a holy bond between one man and one woman. Marriage is the only arena for sexual activity. From marriages, families are formed which serve as the building blocks of society.
